Speech and Language Consultation
Sunbeam Developmental Resource Centre (SDRC) offers Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services to individuals over the age of 6 years. Our goal is to facilitate functional communication for our clients within their home environment. We provide mediator model consultation.
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will work in conjunction with other professionals involved with the child including other SLPs to ensure continuation and consistency of care.
Consultation
We provide SLP consultation – we will help identify communication, speech and language difficulties the client is experiencing and will provide suggestions to target the area of difficulty. This may include resources to use at home.
Feeding/Swallowing Assessment
If an individual is experiencing feeding and/or swallowing difficulties, a SLP may assess to determine the cause of these difficulties and develop a plan for treatment or other modifications.
Augmentative Communication Services
We provide assessment and consultation for children and adults for low level communication devices to support face to face communication. This could include Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) or access to Boardmaker software for creating picture communication symbols. Visuals cues can be used both to communicate or enhance comprehension.
Training
We provide education about speech and language difficulties. Workshops are offered throughout the year. Visit the “Resource” section of our website under “Workshops, Clinics and Training Courses” for a complete list of available workshops.
